Coming of Age Sunday • April 26, 2021
Coming of Age Sunday celebrates the signature year-long journey of our 9th grade youth, transitioning from the inherited faith of childhood to the adult journey of faith, and marked by youth sharing their statement of faith or credo. Services will include a collage of voices, with religious education staff and ministers leading in joyful celebration.
Coming of Age: Grade 9A crowning jewel in Unity’s Religious Education sequence is the Coming of Age (COA) program. The COA program is open for 9th grade youth and meets September-April on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-5:45.
Coming of Age, is a rich program of spiritual exploration that culminates in the creation of a personal credo. Through engaging classes, supportive mentorships and individual reflection and writing, youth will arrive at a point where they will feel confident sharing their statement of their personal theology in a joyful ceremony. In late April, our COA program culminates in a weekend of sharing and celebration. Youth and mentors enjoy a final banquet together. Family and friends are invited to attend the evening Ceremonies, where youth share their statements with the congregation and guests. On Coming of Age Sunday, the youth are recognized as full participants in our faith community. Consider Mentoring
A key part of Coming of Age is the mentor/mentee relationship. It is both one of the most challenging and most rewarding experiences you can have as a Unity Church member. We are looking to expand and develop our pool of members who are prepared to guide, advise and encourage 9th graders preparing for this important rite of passage. If you are interested in serving as a Coming of Age mentor beginning in September, contact Drew Danielson at [email protected].
